Fools Names & Faces Appear in Public Places

I grew up hearing this phrase ad nauseum. My mother used it in reference to the internet and all social media in the latter years of her life.

The moment you post a picture, word or god forbid, your thoughts on the internet they are public for the world to see and have an opinion on. Not all of them will be kind or in your favor. You are not sitting in your living room chatting with friends or even tucked in the corner of your favorite coffee shop having a private conversation. You are making your opinions PUBLIC when you take them to the internet.

When an author publishes a book they go through many, many refusals with harsh criticism before getting a deal to publish. The ease of the internet has made it so that anyone and everyone, myself included, can “publish” their thoughts in seconds. One can self publish a book without much fuss with enough money.

One does not go on “America’s Got Talent” and not expect to be judged on what they bring to the stage. Little submissions to “Reader’s Digest” get judged by every reader they pass by. Posting a selfie on Facebook is putting yourself out there to be judged by each and every person who sees it.

I cannot reiterate enough that if you are going to put yourself out into the big bad world with your ideas that you have to grow a thick skin and be able to handle negative opinions about yourself and your content. I am not hurt or upset by those who don’t like me or my content.

I make it a point of writing about things I know. One cannot challenge my personal experience. When I am offered feedback for growth I take the time to consider it. I may not like it, but I will at least consider it.

I am not a soft, cuddly person who will give you feedback exactly how you want it. That’s not who I am. It never has been and it never will be. I’m direct and blunt. I withstand the exact same type of feedback I give better than trying to pussyfoot around an issue.

For those who are still expecting gentle, loving, supportive “GO YOU” comments on your blogs… take time to heed my words. You have put yourself out there for the world to see and judge, just the same as the last movie you saw or book you read. Your content is PUBLIC!!! Kindness is appreciated, but there are people out there who aren’t going to be nice. Have you read a bad review from a critic? Much harsher than most comments you’ll get on a blog.

Fools Names and Faces Appear In Public Places once again.
