1. Assume that in the future there will be huge leaps in human augmentation. Given a scale from completely human to completely machine, how far would you choose to augment yourself with robotics? What parts would you augment and why?
I’d choose not to augment with robotics at all. I’m a firm believer that just because we can doesn’t mean we should. This is not typically a subject I talk about with people not directly in my close circle, but I’ll go ahead and say a bit more. Through technology, we have altered natural selection to a point that it doesn’t functionally work well in our species at this point. The human life span has been increased beyond a sustainable point. I’m not excited to die and/or get ill, but it’s part of the natural order of things. I’m pretty picky about what treatments I would choose for myself based on these values.
2. In your community, are events, school, and large gatherings forbidden or cancelled due to COVID-19?
You bet! I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Over 7 million people are living under work restrictions, services cut, schools closed, restaurants closed or take out/delivery only. My particular county is waiting for the same order to come down today or in the very near future. I don’t know about the rest of the country, but they’re calling it Shelter at Home. We’re limited in Sonoma County, but not quite to the full extent all the counties around us are.
3. Has your work schedule changed due to COVID-19–i.e., onsite work changed to teleworking or shortened shifts or no work at all?
I’m a housewife, so no for me. Daddy is still working full time on His regular schedule. Things may change drastically in the next few days.
4. What gets too much attention in the news?
5. How do you get your news?
Bonus: Do you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? This year how will you celebrate?
